What if I told you that whatever you thought about yourself would come true — either positive or negative?
What would your life look like if you were given the opportunity to start over?
Let’s be honest, we’ve all struggled with insecurity or negative thinking at some point in our lives. Today, I want to share with you a story that I hope will change your perspective.
By the end of this story you will…
1) Discover the power of your thoughts and words to influence and create change in yourself and others.
2) Discover the God who loves you and wants to change the way you think about yourself.
To help me illustrate this point, I want to share with you MY VERSION of a story featured in Woman’s Day, 1965 called …
Johnny Lingo and the Eight Cow Wife
(Original story by Patricia McGerr. Revised by Esther Carlson, 2010.)
Just like the story you heard, Jesus paid a GREAT PRICE for you.
Islanders “labeled” Sarita as “plain and shy.” She was what others said of her. She believed their lies.
But God doesn’t see us the way others do! He’s not concerned about how “others” view us or the labels they attach to us. He sees HIMSELF in you!
God hoped that His great sacrifice would reveal to you your Immeasurable Value and Worth and Significance. And that once you realized this truth, something would change on the inside of you.
God purposefully gave you a new identity — one that is not based on what you think, or what someone else thinks.
He wanted to give you the self-confidence to “do” and “be” all that He had hoped and dreamed for you.
He wanted you to believe — not just in your head, but in your heart — and it would change the way you live. You would live differently!
While on the earth Jesus told us over and over again, “God loves you.” But on the cross, He chose to not use any words. The Bible says he was silent before his accusers.
Why do you think that was?
I think he looked into the future and saw us, a generation of people who were tired of empty words and broken promises.
It wasn’t enough to talk about God’s love anymore. He knew some of us needed to see it. So he backed up his words with action.
He wanted you to finally get it! GOD LOVES YOU! God has ALWAYS LOVED you. God will NEVER STOP loving you.
The moral of my story is this…
You are not what others say about you. You are not what you say about yourself. You are what God says you are. He says, “You are a deeply loved child of God.”
Live like you believe it!
