I love this poem by Bill Muir. The principles apply to ministry, work or motherhood. Take time today to slow down and re-focus on what matters.
It’s Time
by Bill Muir, Youth For Christ
It’s time for us to slow down, to listen, to pray.
It’s time because it shows on our tired faces.
It’s time because the weaker of us make bad decisions and the best of us are insecure.
It’s time because the weight of ministry is crushing and the sadness is overwhelming.
It’s time because even though ministry is good, within our souls we sense there is something wrong.
It’s time because problems are complex, and setbacks are more common.
It’s time because meetings produce little and our new ideas somehow sound old.
It’s time because as good as we are, we could be better; as good as we have been, it hasn’t been enough.
It’s time because our spirits are tired and our dreams are small.
It’s time because our conversations are superficial and our thoughts are shallow.
It’s time because it’s harder to sit with Him than to work for Him. It’s harder to talk to Him than to talk about Him. It’s harder to listen to Him than to obey Him. It’s harder to live with Him than to live for Him.
If it isn’t time for you, it’s time for me.
If you’re strong, hold me up.
If you’re talking to God, help me to talk with Him, too.
If you hear His voice, tell me what you hear.
I need to hear His voice to renew my weary spirit, to soften my calloused hands, to strengthen my wobbly legs, to touch my near-sighted eyes and to fill my empty heart.
I must hear from Him because I am too old to spend my time doing the wrong things and too young to waste my energy doing the glamorous things.
It’s time to change from running to kneeling, from doubting to believing, from holding to giving, from hiding to revealing, from fearing to trusting, and from blaming to forgiving.
It’s time because God is whispering in our tired souls to slow down.
It’s time… It’s time… It’s time.
